Port Lincoln Mayor Diana Mislov was a special guest at the Migration Institute of Australia’s Regional Migration Conference held in Adelaide.
Our South Australian board representative, Mayor Mislov was part of a panel discussing approaches to encourage regional settlement, including how to attract and retain migrants in regional areas with targeted migration programs, community support and employment incentives.
Regional population growth must be underpinned by both skilled and non-skilled migration. Regional migration is key to:
- thriving and diverse regional economies;
- service delivery in regional areas – particularly health; and
- a more balanced population.
RCA is advocating for a population policy that encourages businesses and families to move to the regions – and we want to be involved in the development of this policy.
We also want the Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) program to be simplified so that uptake increases
